Datadog-Preise Überblick (2026): Was 40 Geräte wirklich kosten

This is a pricing audit, not a 30-day hands-on trial, and I want to be clear about that. On September 30, 2026 I read Datadog's live pricing pages for Infrastructure, APM and Log Management, captured screenshots of each, and recorded every list price for annual and on-demand billing. I then built a cost model for a hypothetical team of 40 hosts running APM everywhere and shipping 600 GB of logs a month, assuming roughly 1 KB per log event, so 600 GB is about 600 million events. All model arithmetic is shown in the testing section so you can swap in your own numbers. Ratings and complaints come from G2, Capterra, TrustRadius, Trustpilot and Reddit. I did not run a production workload on Datadog, so I make no claims about agent overhead or query latency.

Is Datadog worth its price for your team?

YES if you...

  • Teams of 10 to 200 hosts that want metrics, traces and logs in one place without stitching tools together
  • Engineering orgs where one person owns observability spend and reviews the usage page monthly
  • Companies that value a working dashboard in minutes over the lowest possible unit price

NO if you...

  • Teams with high-cardinality custom metrics and no budget owner for usage alerts
  • Startups that need a fully self-hosted option for data residency or cost control
  • Anyone who wants to price every retention tier from a public page before talking to sales

Plus $1.70 per million indexed events (15-day, annual)

  • $2.55 per million on demand
  • Flex Starter $0.60 per million stored
  • Forwarding $0.25 per GB outbound

ROI-Rechnung: For a 40-host team running Infrastructure Pro plus APM on every host, list price is $46 per host per month before logs, or $1,840 a month. Add 600 GB of logs fully indexed at 15 days and the total reaches $2,920 a month, about $73 per host.

Versteckte Kosten & Fallstricke
  • Custom metrics above the per-host allotment are billed on usage, and the page says to contact sales for the rate
  • Logs are billed twice: $0.10 per GB at ingest, then per million events to index
  • On-demand billing adds 20% on Infrastructure Pro and 50% on indexed logs
  • Standalone APM costs $36 instead of $31 when Infrastructure is not attached
  • 3, 7 and 30-day log retention tiers show Contact Us instead of a price

Pros and cons

Where the Datadog bill helps and hurts

Pros

  • Fast time to a useful dashboard G2 reviewers cite easy installation and a clean UI, and Pro ships 1,000+ integrations.
  • One platform instead of four invoices Metrics, traces, logs, RUM and security share one query language.
  • A real free tier for evaluation Up to 5 hosts at $0 with 1-day metric retention is enough to instrument one service and judge the product before committing.
  • Flex Logs lowers storage cost sharply Flex Starter at $0.60 per million events stored is 65% below standard 15-day indexing at $1.70, if your queries tolerate the model.

Cons

  • Custom metrics make the bill hard to forecast Allotments are 100 per host on Pro and 200 on Enterprise. Beyond that the page gives no rate.
  • Two meters on every log line At 600 GB a month the modeled log share was 37% of the bill, and indexing was 94% of that.
  • Retention tiers hidden behind Contact Us 3, 7 and 30-day standard indexing tiers do not show a price, so a finance team cannot model them without a sales call.
  • On-demand premium punishes experiments On-demand is 20% above annual for Infrastructure Pro and 50% above annual for indexed logs, so month-to-month flexibility is expensive.
  • Support gets mixed marks G2 reviewers mention email-only support, and Trustpilot scores 1.8 from 23 reviews.
Verdict

Final verdict on Datadog pricing

7.4 /10

Datadog is the tool I would pick for a team that wants observability working by Friday and has a person who will own the bill. The list prices are reasonable for a hosted, single-vendor stack. What you pay for is speed, breadth and the absence of integration work.

The problem is predictability. My 40-host model reached $2,920 a month on annual billing, and two items I could not price from the page, custom metrics overage and some log retention tiers, can move that number. Reviewers on G2, Capterra and TrustRadius say the bill grows faster than the infrastructure does.

Start on the free tier, instrument one production service, and set usage alerts on custom metrics and log volume before rolling out wider. Commit annually once usage is stable, since on-demand costs 20% to 50% more. If nobody can own the bill, price Grafana-based or self-hosted options first. Score: 7.4 out of 10.

Datadog pricing questions

How much does Datadog cost per host?
Infrastructure Pro is $15 per host per month billed annually, or $18 on demand. Enterprise is $23 annually or $27 on demand. APM adds $31 per host annually when Infrastructure is attached, and the free tier covers up to 5 hosts.
Does Datadog have a free plan?
Yes. The Infrastructure Free plan covers up to 5 hosts with 1-day metric retention and core collection and visualization features. Paid products such as APM and logs are billed separately.
Why do Datadog bills grow so fast?
Billing is per host plus per signal. Custom metrics above the per-host allotment, indexed log events and APM spans are metered separately, so usage growth compounds. G2, Capterra and TrustRadius reviewers all describe custom metrics as the least predictable item.
How much do Datadog logs cost?
Ingest is $0.10 per GB. Standard indexing at 15-day retention is $1.70 per million events annually or $2.55 on demand. Flex Starter storage is $0.60 per million events annually. Other retention tiers require contacting sales.
Is annual billing cheaper than on-demand?
Yes. On-demand is 20% above annual for Infrastructure Pro ($18 vs $15) and 50% above for 15-day indexed logs ($2.55 vs $1.70). In my 40-host model the on-demand total was 28% higher.
What is the Datadog free trial?
Datadog offers a free trial on paid products and a permanent Free infrastructure plan limited to 5 hosts. Check the pricing page for current trial length, since it can change.
What are good Datadog alternatives on cost?
Grafana Cloud and other Grafana-based stacks, self-hosted open source observability tools, and New Relic are the usual shortlist. Cost depends heavily on your metric cardinality and log volume, so model your own numbers.
How do customers rate Datadog?
G2 shows 4.4 out of 5 from 728 reviews, Capterra 4.6 from 369, TrustRadius 8.8 out of 10 from 376, and Trustpilot 1.8 from 23. Positive themes are ease of setup and unified views. Negative themes are cost and learning curve.
